Hi guys,
I hope you’ve all had a great Christmas period and are getting excited about the year ahead. I don’t normally write a newsletter for December, but this year I’ll make an exception. This is largely due to the fact that we had two athletes racing for Team GB at the Triathlon T100 World Championships in Doha, Qatar earlier this month. More on these two legends shortly.
I’ll keep this one short and sweet, but I just wanted to say a huge thank you to all the athletes I’ve had the pleasure of working with this year. I’m lucky enough to coach an incredibly diverse range of athletes and wouldn’t want it any other way. We’ve had some tremendous success this year, and it’s been a joy to see you all going from strength to strength.
This includes my wonderful group of squad swimmers, my inspiring team of triathletes I coach online, and the swimmers I work with day to day through my video analysis work. You all seem to keep coming back for more (in most cases!), and that’s the greatest compliment you can pay me — so a very big thank you.
If anyone wants to join me on my journey in 2026, I’ll be racing the following events if all goes to plan:
- The Wales Triathlon (Middle Distance) – June
- The Cotswold Classic (Middle Distance) – July
- Ironman Wales – September
I’ll also be throwing in some 50-mile TT’s and hopefully a 100-mile TT at some point.
Our first-ever team race of the year will be The Cotswold Classic (Middle Distance) on Sunday 12th July. We already have 15 athletes signed up, so I can’t wait for this one.
I’m not one for New Year’s resolutions, but all I’ll say is this: if you want to become a better athlete in 2026, it really is just a case of “chop wood, carry water.” You can overcomplicate training as much as you like — as many do — but if you stay in the game and compound your efforts over time, you’ll continue to go from strength to strength. Most importantly, keep it fresh and fun, because when you combine that with challenges and goals that genuinely excite you, that’s when the magic really starts to happen.
Wishing you all a very Happy New Year — I look forward to seeing you in 2026.
Julian

Huge congratulations to these two absolute legends who both qualified for — and took on — the T100 World Championships in Doha, Qatar this month. Racing in brutal heat on the biggest stage, both delivered performances to be seriously proud of, albeit in very different ways.
David finished off an incredible season in style with a strong, controlled swim and bike before throwing down an absolutely blistering run to claim the 2nd-fastest run split in his age group. A huge classy performance when it mattered most.
Marc, meanwhile, showed exactly what championship mentality looks like. After his trademark fast swim, a course-signage mishap saw him miss the bike exit and unknowingly add an extra 20km to the ride (get your act together, T100!). Lesser athletes would have thrown in the towel — but Marc dug deep, kept fighting, and battled all the way to the finish. That level of grit and resilience says everything about the athlete he is. On a luckier day, he would have been right in the mix for the podium.
Massive congrats to both for racing at this level for the first time and doing themselves proud. I’m sure this is only the beginning for you both racing at this level.
